THANKING MY LUCKY STARS

10/22/13

Last night was really cool. The annual benefit for the Dramatists Guild Fund happened at the Edison Ballroom on West 47th Street, and Marsha Norman and I were asked to participate, along with a whole passel of truly amazing composers, lyricists and playwrights. There are lots of events every year where actors support other actors, but it was really special and unusual to be part of an event where writers were supporting other writers. I wasn’t just on the same program as my peers and heroes, I was in the same ROOM as they were – look around, there’s SteveRead More »

THE WINNERS OF THE JRB KARAOKE COMPETITION!

10/17/13

Lynn Shore is a California guy. Did some shows, did some “General Hospital,” did some comedy at the Improv, lots of commercials. Plays the trumpet, the piano, emcees every now and then. About ten years ago, he decided to take it easy on the performing, he developed software, he lived by the beach with his wife of 23 years and his son. But after years away from the stage, the mid-life crisis hit and he determined to get back in the game. “Honeymoon In Vegas” opened last Sunday at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn NJ, with an amazing cast including Rob McClure, Brynn O’Malley, Nancy Opel, David Josefsberg, Matt Saldivar and the one and only Tony Danza. Let me tell you, it’s a surreal feeling. Here’s the whole thing, or you can look at it on the Times website: FROM RING-A-DING SWAGGER TORead More »

COMING TOGETHER, 12 YEARS LATER

9/11/13

A repost from 2011: There isn’t much I can say about this song or the events that inspired it. I don’t perform it very often anymore because it now feels like a promise that wasn’t kept. But for several years after I wrote it, I had the great good fortune to have Adriane Lenox join me and share her heartbreaking empathy and understanding and extraordinary vocal power. The concert from which this recording is drawn was one of the most emotional and memorable nights of my life as a performer – me, Gary and Randy, and 60 singers (many ofRead More »
