SET LIST: DePAUW UNIVERSITY, 3/7/15

3/7/15

Many thanks to a really fun crowd this afternoon in Greencastle IN, for singing your hearts out during “Caravan of Angels” and for generally putting up with my rambling patter (and for being so nice to my new song)! A whole weekend of master classes and talks will follow here at DePauw, and I’m looking forward to it. TWO YEARS LATER

12/14/14

Something broke in me two years ago, and I have sat in mute amazement that so little of any real meaning has changed in our society and culture. There have been more than 30 shootings at schools since the unimaginably terrible killings in Newtown CT two years ago. Just two days ago, a shooting at Rosemary Anderson High School in Portland, Oregon injured four students. I see the headlines, swallow hard and resign myself to the reality of the New Terrorism, hoping against hope that I somehow won’t be directly victimized by it. But we have all been victimized byRead More »

THE LONG ROAD TO FIRST PREVIEW

11/18/14

Bergman and I started working on Honeymoon in Vegas in 2003. In the eleven years between now and then, we have benefited from the assistance, love, time and talent of an intimidatingly large number of people. I want to thank those people now, by name, for everything they brought to the process, because no one is more amazed than I am that we are finally starting previews on Broadway, and it’s not just sentimentality to say that we wouldn’t be here without all of them. Before I write the whole list, I want to single out Lauren Kennedy, for whomRead More »

SET LIST: BROADWAY CLOSE UP at MERKIN HALL, NYC (10/27/14)

10/28/14

I have a lot of history with Merkin Concert Hall. When I was 20 years old, my first job in New York City was as the accompanist for a community choir called the Rottenberg Chorale, which was conducted by the great Elayne Robinson Grossman. I was hired for the job by Sean Hartley, who worked for the Lucy Moses School where the Rottenbergs were in residence, and I spent two years working with them – our concerts were always at Merkin Hall, which was therefore the first concert hall in New York City that I ever set foot on. SoRead More »
