3/14/17

Sierra Boggess was supposed to be the first guest to join me in the SubCulture residency. In January 2015, we had announced the show, sold tickets, and rehearsed all the numbers – and then came The Blizzard. 1/10/17

We could talk about the exquisite sensitivity and inescapable humanity of Kelli O’Hara singing “Christmas Lullaby,” a song which she said she couldn’t believe she hadn’t sung before… …or the crystalline brilliance of her performances from The Bridges of Madison County, recreated here with such defining authority… …or we could discuss the glories of this amazing orchestra, eleven wonderful musicians who commit to this music with such passion and command that they break my heart and fill it at the same time… …or we could even talk about Randy getting stuck in the corner again… …but let’s face it, allRead More »

GRATITUDE

12/28/16

There has been such a sense of loss pervading 2016, so many icons of our culture gone, so much debased and distorted in our sense of ourselves as a nation, so much that is uncertain and uncontained in the world. I am choosing, in these last days of this exhausting and often unkind year, to focus on the fact that I have been able to make music with so many extraordinary people. Finding a shared space with other musicians is the thing that makes me feel like there is a way forward – a conversation, a collaboration. Thank you toRead More »
