Hey! What are you doing this week?
I mean, outside of the seders and the Easter egg decorating, what are you doing?
Can’t quite figure out how to spend your voluminous free time? Just sitting around watching reruns of “Cops” all day long? Still trying to adjust to Daylight Saving Time?
Me too.
Alas, party’s over, I have to go to work this week, but what will make it sweeter is if you all chose to join me. This week we’re doing eight shows at Birdland and it’s gonna be sweller than swell, because we’ve got extra pulchritude on stage with us this week for the same low price! (Same old Caucasian Rhythm Kings, though, except now Randy’s married.) Check out this roster of special guest stars:
Wednesday, April 4, 9 pm and 11 pm: Lauren Kennedy!
Thursday, April 5 & Friday April 6, 9 pm and 11 pm: Laura Benanti!
Saturday, April 7, 9 pm and 11 pm: Jenn Colella!
I’m trying to work it out so that if you come for the 9, you can stay for the 11, but that’s not all set up yet. However, the 9 pm shows will be different from the 11 pm shows, so you’ll want to catch them both!
We’ll be singing songs from Songs for a New World, Parade, The Last Five Years, Urban Cowboy, 13, Honeymoon in Vegas, Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes and The Jason Robert Brown Collection. (Wow, that makes me sound so prolific. No wonder these concerts always run into overtime.)
So call 212-581-3080 for reservations and information. Birdland is at 315 W. 44 St. in Manhattan, between 8th & 9th Ave.
But that’s not even the real news. The real news is the cast I’ve lined up to do the concert of Songs for a New World at Strathmore in May. You ready?
Alice Ripley.
Laura Benanti.
Brian d’Arcy James.
Tituss Burgess.
Now come on! That’s a cast! You’ve got to come out to Washington DC to see this! Michael Baron is directing, and the whole shebang is a collaboration between the amazing award-winning Signature Theatre and the unbelievably gorgeous Music Center at Strathmore.
There’s other news too, but that’s just too big an act to follow. You’ll have to wait until May! But in the meantime, dig around The Official JRB Website for new sound blogs, new articles, and lots of groovy JRB stuffness.
See you at Birdland and Strathmore! And have a spectacular Spring!
Extra pulchritudinously,
Jason Robert Brown
