Last night, we closed out a year of fantastic concerts at SubCulture with a full-fledged stringstravaganza and a wonderful crop of singers. Rarities included a song that we cut during previews of 13 that I’ve never performed before; the song I wrote for my wedding (sung by one of the two singers who performed it that day twelve years ago!); and, at Rozz’s suggestion, a barn-burning rendition of a Bruno Mars song that apparently everyone in the world knew but me. Also last night, the debut of the two leads of the national tour of The Bridges of Madison County, who sang with such passion and force; and my first collaboration with the fantastic Rachel Tucker, who came and sang with me even after eight shows as Elphaba uptown.

The night also brought the news that, while this was the final show of the 2015 residency, there will be more JRB SubCulture shows coming in the New Year! We hope to announce the first three dates soon, and of course, there will be the usual collection of incredible musicians and singers to make merry and eat Jose Simbulan’s cookies.

Thanks as always to Marc and Stephen Kaplan and the whole wonderful gang at SubCulture – I feel so lucky to call it my artistic home.
