A gorgeous autumnal Sunday in suburban New Jersey with my magnificent band and truly one of the most amazing singers in the world. Not only did we get to play extended versions of some of our favorite songs, but we also got to accompany Mykal on two glorious songs from his wonderful debut album, A Man Born Black. Also, Mykal made me join TikTok, the results of which remain to be seen.

JRB, I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful performance and for coming to the Axelrod in Deal. Mykal, Gary, Mark and Jamie were all perfect, but what was the most special was seeing my mom laugh and smile and enjoy herself. This is her first time out in a public setting since the pandemic and I easily convinced her to come since this is the stage that her granddaughter Maddie performed on and same granddaughter continues to sing your songs even though she is currently working in tv. Maddie asked me which songs you sang and I could remember a few, one from Last 5 Years, Bridges of Madison County, Songs From a New World, a few heartfelt ones that you wrote especially meaningful, Invisible, 50 Years, the one for your daughter going to Frenchwoods. Not one from ‘13’, as she reminisced about auditioning and her callbacks that were more then ‘13’ years ago! Your feeling, humility and depth is incredible and easy to see why your shows are such and didn’t look at my watch once. See you again soon and thanks for a wonderful day.
