Starting the New Year and the New Residency with a blizzard of notes! Among the high points: the boys and I revisited “I’m In Bizness” for what I’m pretty sure is the first time this decade (in fact, I don’t see any record of us having performed it as a trio since 2006!); the NY premiere of “The Hardest Hill,” which is criminally fun to sing and play; our guest band member, the amazing Guy Klucevsek, who not only added his virtuoso accordion stylings to many of our greatest hits, but allowed us to accompany him on his epic “Dancing On The Volcano” (Georgia said we were all staring at our parts like the paper was on fire – it was hard!); my first time standing at the mic to sing, with Guy’s haunting accompaniment on “All Things In Time”; and the indescribable magic of Tituss Burgess, who told the story of meeting me after seeing Parade on tour in Atlanta when he was 19 years old and telling me, “I’m gonna work with you one day!” Last night, Tituss made his entrance singing Lucille’s part (in the original key and octave!) of “This Is Not Over Yet,” and then brought Annie Lennox’s “Wonderful” to thrilling life, along with his beautiful and supremely personal versions of “Still Hurting” and “King of the World.”
