It was great to hear your wonderful Honeymoon in Vegas and The Bridges of Madison County songs in concert last year. Good luck with getting these shows produced this year!
Last year I also got the chance to observe one of your master classes, which was incredibly entertaining and educational. One of my favorite experiences of the year was listening to you explain the construction and subtext of the theater songs that the singers performed.
This year I’m looking forward to seeing The Last 5 Years that you’ll be directing, but the world needs (damn it, I need) more new JRB musicals.
I saw The Last Five Years at Actor’s Playhouse in Miami this past week, and I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it! I had not come across your work, although I am an avid fan of musicals (but not a performer of any kind- I’m an engineer) and I always look for shows that provide challenges to the audience and try new concepts. It has become so hard to find this in new original work that I find myself mostly looking for local revivals (Sondheim shows being a rare treat). I just thought I’d drop you a note and let you know how much I look forward to further exploring your work and seeing what you do in 2013! Happy New Year!
