HONEYMOON IN VEGAS opening at Paper Mill
Rob McClure is heading to Vegas! McClure will join previously announced star Tony Danza in the world premiere of Jason Robert Brown and Andrew Bergman’s new musical comedy Honeymoon in Vegas, an adaptation of the hit 1992 movie. Directed by Gary Griffin, the musical will run September 26 through October 17 at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
“We are so thrilled,” a press representative for Paper Mill told Broadway.com. “[McClure] is a very close member of the Paper Mill family. He was in our conservatory, he won a Rising Star award, he was in a mainstage production here, he was a teacher here, he worked in our box office here, and it’s amazing to have Rob come back here, full circle.”
Honeymoon in Vegas tells the story of Jack Singer (McClure), a commitment-phobe who finally proposes to his girlfriend Betsy. The couple heads to Vegas to get hitched, but when wealthy gambler Tommy Korman (Danza) falls head over heels for Betsy (who bears a striking resemblance to his late wife), he arranges for Jack to lose big in a poker game so he can claim the bride-to-be as his own girlfriend. Honeymoon in Vegas features music and lyrics by Brown and a book by Bergman. Although the show had originally been slated to premiere in Toronto in November 2012, the production was later scrapped.
McClure got his start in the Paper Mill mainstage production I’m Not Rappaport, and made his Broadway debut when the show transferred in 2002. He starred as Rod in Avenue Q on Broadway before snagging his acclaimed breakout role of Charlie Chaplin in the 2012 musical Chaplin. In high school, he won a Paper Mill Rising Star Award for his performance in Where’s Charley?
