Bergman and I started working on Honeymoon in Vegas in 2003. In the eleven years between now and then, we have benefited from the assistance, love, time and talent of an intimidatingly large number of people. I want to thank those people now, by name, for everything they brought to the process, because no one is more amazed than I am that we are finally starting previews on Broadway, and it’s not just sentimentality to say that we wouldn’t be here without all of them.
Before I write the whole list, I want to single out Lauren Kennedy, for whom the role of Betsy was written, and who stuck with the show for three readings over five years, and who imprinted every note with her distinctive and amazing gifts, and who I love with all my heart. Thank you, Lolliebear, and thank you to all of the people I name below, as well as all the people I forget to mention.
In more or less chronological order from the very first reading I saw at Musical Theatre Works in 2003 through a 2006 reading at Chelsea Studios, a 2007 reading at New 42 St Studios, a 2009 reading at the Clurman Theatre, a 2011 workshop at 890 Broadway and our production at the Paper Mill Playhouse last year:
Sherie Rene Scott
Donna Lynne Champlin
Nikki Renee Daniels
Kevin R. Free
Norbert Leo Butz
Marc dela Cruz
Deborah Lew Farrell
Mark B Simon
Lloyd Davis Jr.
John Ellison Conlee
Daniel J Edwards
Sarah Jenkins Briedis
and all the other actors, musicians, stage managers and producers who helped bring this show to life.
Here we go! First preview tonight!
